As legislative and recyclability changes transform recycling, our refreshed How2Recycle Pro and Plus labels will help members meet the moment. Designed to be accurate, clear, and legally compliant, our refreshed labels are available to How2Recycle members.

How2Recycle Forward

How2Recycle is excited to share its label offerings with members: How2Recycle Pro and How2Recycle Plus.

The How2Recycle Pro Label

Designed to be future-proofed — accurate, clear, and legally compliant — our refreshed label is available to How2Recycle members in their Member Platform. From now on, members requesting new labels will receive the new How2Recycle Pro label design.

The Dynamic How2Recycle Plus Label

How2Recycle members can now use the How2Recycle Plus label with its QR code for eligible Check Locally and Widely Recyclable formats. How2Recycle Plus labels give consumers localized, real-time disposal instructions when the scan the label’s QR code, which is powered by The Recycling Partnership’s Community Recycling Program Acceptance Database.

Do I Need to Change My Label Immediately?

Now that the labels have been rolled out in the Member Platform, members will need to update their labels to the How2Recycle Pro design, but for many labels, updates don’t need to be immediate.

Members do not need to request new designs for existing labels, and members can find their existing labels replaced with the new designs within the Member Platform. As part of the label rollout, we’ve provided a priority list of labels to transition to in accordance with California’s SB 343. The resource is available in the How2Recycle Member Platform.

For non-priority labels, members can determine the best time to update their other labels. Moving forward, all future label requests will receive labels with the new design.

The Evolution of the How2Recycle Label

Since 2012, the How2Recycle Legacy Label has helped empower consumers to make informed disposal decisions. With this label in tow, How2Recycle has grown from its humble roots to having more than 800 members and issuing the most recognizable on-pack label across North America.

In that time, we’ve learned that a dynamic recycling landscape demands an adaptable label. As legislative and recyclability changes transform recycling, our refreshed How2Recycle Pro label will help members meet the moment. Designed to be accurate, clear, and legally compliant, our refreshed label design is available to How2Recycle members.

How2Recycle members can also opt to pair their standard How2Recycle Pro label with the dynamic How2Recycle Plus powered by The Recycling Partnership’s Community Recycling Program Acceptance Database. This label pairing provides accurate, location-specific information to give consumers a clear answer on a material’s recyclability. Plus, in pairing these labels, we’ll make sure that consumers without cell phones or tech savvy still receive instructions.

The label design refresh is a key pillar of our How2Recycle Forward campaign, where we’re driving the dynamic, data-driven future of on-pack labeling.
