Prior to joining How2Recycle as a Project Manager, Monica directed the Zero Waste Department at the San Jose Conservation Corps. There, she oversaw a job training program for young adults, focused on the collection and diversion of several materials such as E-waste, illegally dumped tires, beverage containers, and organic waste. Monica received a master’s degree in Interdisciplinary Studies in Environmental, Economic, and Social Sustainability from the Universidad Autónoma de Barcelona and an undergraduate degree in International Security and Conflict Resolution from San Diego State University. Monica is a certified master composter, a TRUE Advisor, and a Zero Waste Manager through the Solid Waste Association of North America. When she’s not trying to save the world, you can find Monica hiking in the mountains and forests of California, exploring towns and cities, or spending time with her husband, pet boxer dog, and baby daughter.
What is your why?
Growing up camping and spending time in nature with my family naturally led me to environmentalism. However, it wasn’t until I became an environmental educator and taught students about the effects of waste and pollution on our planet that I became truly passionate about these issues and committed to being part of the solution.
