How compostable is your packaging?
How2Compost members, it may be time to resubmit your compostable package label requests! We have two exciting developments that may impact your How2Compost label eligibility:
- In case you missed BPI’s news, BPI launched a commercial and home compost certification in addition to the existing commercial facility-only certification. As a result, How2Compost has expanded our offerings to include both disposal options within our label if your package holds this certification.
- We are working with BPI to reevaluate package systems containing both certified compostable and non-compostable components to get more labels on pack. If your package contains mixed components that are easily distinguishable and separable as part of typical use, we want to evaluate your package for eligibility for a combined How2Recycle and How2Compost label. If you have previously submitted a request to our team and did not qualify for a compostable label due to disassembly requirements, please duplicate that request and resubmit for consideration.
How2Compost labels are designed to work alongside How2Recycle labels to communicate clear disposal instructions to consumers. Membership is free to US-based How2Recycle brand members. Packages must be certified compostable by BPI to qualify. Email how2compost@greenblue.org for additional information and to get signed up.
