We’ve got two Platform updates for How2Recycle members this month: First, we’ve added a molded fiber material option to our label suite; Next, we’re walking through the steps of using our “Response Required” feature.
1. Molded Fiber Addition:
What’s new:
We’ve added “molded fiber / fibre moulée” as a new material option within the How2Recycle label suite. This update helps better distinguish molded fiber substrates from traditional paper substrates, as their recyclability outcomes can differ, particularly following our alignment with SB 343 requirements.
Members with molded fiber packaging will begin seeing this new material designation reflected in their label requests.
Implementation:
Due to the current volume of requests in our queue, previously approved label requests will not be automatically updated to reflect the new “molded fiber / fibre moulée” material designation even if the packaging contains molded fiber.
If you would like to receive an updated label featuring “molded fiber / fibre moulée,” please submit a Second Look request for label requests originally submitted after September 4, 2025.
For requests submitted prior to that date, please duplicate the original request and resubmit it for review.
2. New“Response Required” Feature for More Information on How2Recycle Label Requests
What is the Response Required feature?
When a label request is returned for “More Information,” the How2Recycle team may ask for more context through the new “Response Required” feature in the Platform.
If you see a “Response Required” tag on your request, the label request cannot be resubmitted until you provide a response in the comments addressing the question asked by the How2Recycle team.
This feature helps ensure that the information needed to complete your label assessment is clearly confirmed before the request moves forward.
What members should do
If “Response Required” is activated on your request:
- Reply in the comments to address the specific question from the How2Recycle team.
- Click Post Comment.
- Then resubmit your request.
If you’ve updated information elsewhere in the request (such as “Component Details”), please confirm the changes in the comments before resubmitting.
Why this feature is used
The Response Required feature helps keep label requests moving forward efficiently when further clarification is needed.
Requiring a response before resubmission helps the How2Recycle team ensure that specific clarifying questions are addressed, while supporting consistent turnaround times for members’ label assessments.
